why I'm still not going out.

So the government has announced those of us sheilding are allowed out. That's nice of them. But it's not their job to allow us to go out it's their job to make it safe. And they haven't done. Wide spread testings and track and trace is not in place. They've stopped sharing statistics on infections so we can't judge safety for ourselves. They aren't providing information on hot spots of infection so we can decide if our area is safe. The guidance on masks is so wishy washy most people still aren't using them.

But most of all people still aren't taking social distancing and infection control seriously. Even delivery drivers seem to have forgotten what contactless delivery is. For a while they put parcels on the doorstep and backed off. But now even with a sign on the door reminding them to do this I often have to verbally remind them as well.

This isn't anything new. People with comprised immune systems are well aware of how little other think about infection control. When its not an illness that puts them at risk they'll happily spread it around. For those of us where a simple cold can cause huge complications the outside world has always been a minefield. Unfortunately even in a world wide pandemic it's still the same.

If I go out I need the people around me to help to keep me safe. The most striking thing is Hong Kong where it was people power that contained the infection not the government. All it takes is people taking action to ensure they personally don't put others at risk and we will be able to make it safe for everyone. Unfortunately until people do this it won't be safe for me to leave the house.
